Solution 1: Check Connectivity Of The Network

  • On all the computer systems, turn the hosting off.
  • Ping the server name from your computer system
  • Enter ping{servername} and then press the Enter key.

Solution 2: Network Diagnostic Tool

As mentioned above also, if you detected packet loss or slow reply while pinging the server name, you will have to repair the network. You can use the Network DIagnostic Tool to do the same.

  • Download the Network Diagnostic Tool.
  • Install it on your system after the download process is complete.
  • Scan that folder where your data is stored.
  • Note down the IP addresses and network interferences.
  • If you see that the Firewall status section has Open Ports button, click the button to enable the ports for QuickBooks.
  • Now, check for data file connectivity.
  • Try to open your company file.
  • If Error H202 still appears, add QuickBooks port to the list of exceptions in Windows Firewall.

Solution 3: Add Your Server To The Windows Host File

  • Firstly, open the windows hosts file on the computer on which the error is triggering.
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\) using the Notepad
    You can open the Notepad as admin, if required.
  • Place the cursor point after the last IP address, and then type the server’s IP address.
  • Press Tab key and enter the server name
  • Go to File menu, click on Save and then on Exit.
  • Open the company file and check if the Error H202 still persists.

Solution 4: Create A New Folder For The Company File

  • Create a new folder on the host computer.
  • Share it (the folder), setup folder and Windows access permissions to share the company files.
  • Copy the QuickBooks Database in the new folder that you created.
  • Try to open the QuickBooks company file again in multi-user mode

Solution 5: Set ’Hosting’ To ‘Local Files Only’

  • Open QuickBooks and press F2 key while it is being opened.
  • Product Information Screen will appear
  • In the lower left side of the screen, select Hosting to ‘Local Files Only’
  • Also check that no other system is trying to host that company file.

Solution 6: Restart The QB Database Server Manager

  • Click on Windows and in the Run dialog, type services.msc and click O
  • Right click on QuickBooksDB19 (2009) or QuickBooksDB18 (2008) or the relevant file according to your QB version, and then click on Stop.
  • Right-click on it again, and now click on Start. Close the window now.
  • To further resolve the error H202, display the extensions for ‘known file types’.
  • To do so, right click on the Windows Start button and click on Explorer->>Tools->>Folder Options
  • Click on the View, and uncheck or clear the ‘Hide extensions’ for ‘Known file types’ box.
  • Now, again click on the View tab and then on ‘show hidden files and folders’.
  • Also, clear the “Hide Protected Operating System Files’ box in the View tab.
  • A warning will be displayed, click on OK.
  • Close the Windows Explorer.

Solution 7: Delete And Then Recreate The .ND File

  • Launch Windows Start, type *.ND and press ENter key in the search section.
  • Right click on the .ND file and click on Delete.
  • Now, again click on WIndows Start and select All Programs ->>QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Click on the Scan Folder.
  • Click on ‘Add Folder’ and then locate the company file folder.
  • Select the company file and click on OK. (The location of the company file is in the Folders with QuickBooks company files field).
  • Click on Scan to start the process.
  • After the scan is complete, click on Close.
